Kitchen Baarn

‘More light and a cozy connecting possibility to chat while cooking’ was an important wish of Emmy and Bastiaan for the renovation of their kitchen.

Natural light

The existing extension of their home in which the kitchen is located had half-height windows with ‘wienersprossen’ and French doors. In order to let in as much light as possible within the existing facade construction, the renovation started with the installation of larger windows that extend to the floor – and equipped with a large sliding door to the garden. The frames are made of natural Accoya wood, which immediately gives the interior a warm and natural starting point.

Warm in both colour and form

Bastiaan and Emmy wanted to work with a beautiful natural stone top for the kitchen worktop. The beautiful gray and golden brown veins of the  Arabescato form a rich pattern that matches well with the Accoya wood. The cooking island is completely rounded on one side. Here the family can cozily sit down on nice bar stools.

Softness

The existing tile floor has been replaced by a light Micro Quartz floor. This gives an even and refined base. The cloudy pattern gives softness to this somewhat ‘harder’ floor. The color of the kitchen cabinets has been carefully matched with the worktop, floor and window frames. All fronts are sprayed in this unique, gray-green color. A rounded milled handle was chosen for the drawers and cabinets, in line with the roundness – and therefore softness – of the island.

Technical treasures

Bastiaan is a real cooking enthusiast and likes to work with topnotch equipment.  The brands Bora and Gaggenau were therefor chosen to be built in. Beautiful technology also has been applied in the lighting plan that complements the kitchen design. Here too, the round shapes are reflected in various choices.

The recessed spotlights in the ceiling provide good basic lighting. A LED strip has been concealed under the upper cabinets for functional light on the side near the sink. The island is illuminated both practically and spherically with a beautiful hanging fixture. The round wall lighting from the same family is a work of art in itself. The result is a beautifully balanced, modern and refined kitchen where Emmy, Bastiaan and their kids can enjoy many pleasant moments.

Great place

“We wanted to experience our garden more from the house and create a modern, practical and cozy space. While cooking we now look into the garden and we often have breakfast, drinks and food at the island. It has become a fantastic place! Francine has perfectly translated our wishes into the design and material choices. ”
